Does Acupuncture for Migraines and Tension Headaches work?

If you suffer from migraines, you do everything you can to find relief. The problem is your meds eventually stop working. So it’s normal to turn to natural healing options like acupuncture. But does acupuncture for migraines and tension headaches really work?

Here’s everything you need to know.

How does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique that was practiced for thousands of years.

They did this by inserting very thin needles into your skin to promote healing. They believed that stimulating certain nerve endings would help balance the energy flowing through your body.

Acupuncture is often used to treat pain of all kinds: dental pain, low back pain, neck pain, menstrual cramps, respiratory disorders and, yes, chronic tension headaches and migraines.

When it comes to natural healing, we have to use some sort of energy medicine to restore our health. Acupuncture is one way to do that.

Does Acupuncture for Migraines and Tension Headaches Work?

Short Answer? Yes. Several studies point to the effectiveness of acupuncture in helping to relieve head pain. It could be tension headaches, sinus headaches or migraines.

When the acupuncture needles pierce the specific points in your body it stimulates nerve clusters.  This reaction causes a release of endorphins throughout your body. It’s this stimulation that can cause a release from your migraine and tension headaches.

But the relief is temporary.

Please Note: If you want to try acupuncture for your migraines, please see a licensed practitioner to reduce any potential complications.

Why Acupuncture isn’t the Answer to Healing Migraines

Even though studies show acupuncture can help women with their migraines, not everyone has a success story. I’ve talked to many women who have tried acupuncture with no positive results.

So, why didn’t acupuncture for migraines work for them?

When you use acupuncture by itself, it’s not likely to be successful. You’re causing temporary relief but you’re missing other foundational pieces on the path to complete healing.

You can’t stimulate the healing energy without doing some preliminary work. At that point, you’re stirring the energy, but it won’t know where to go. We have to explore the cause of your headaches before we can use natural forms of treatment, like acupuncture.

I talk a lot about the steps involved in healing your migraines in my free training, “5 Steps to Healing Migraines Naturally.”

I can also help you figure out the root cause of your migraine in my Healing Migraines Naturally program. It’s a 12-week system that shows you how to rediscover a migraine-free life.
