146. They Told Her Migraines Would Stop At Menopause. They Were Wrong.

A headache center told Amanda that her migraines were hereditary and they'd likely stop at menopause. She took time off work to travel to that appointment. She cried most of the way home.

Think about those two sentences together. They're hereditary. And they'll stop at menopause. Well, which is it? Your genes don't change at menopause.

Today I'm talking to two women. The first one heard that, believed it, waited 15 years, got to menopause, and the migraines are still here. The second one got to menopause and her migraines did get better, but I'm going to ask a question nobody has asked her yet.

I explain why the hardest years of Lisa's migraines were the ones right before menopause, and why that isn't bad luck. Why menopause didn't fix them. Why the calendar is gone but the migraines are keeping the time. And why for the woman whose migraines stopped at menopause, getting better and getting healthier are not always the same thing.

And at the end I tell you about Sue. She had migraines for 45 years. She came to me at 64. She was migraine free by the end of our work together, and she still updates me every year.

It is not too late.
